About ME

My name is Sarah Grace Malphrus, and I recently graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Art and a minor in Architecture. I am from Greenville, South Carolina, but grew up in a small town near Hilton Head, South Carolina. I have also lived in Mexico and Peru where I learned about the culture, and even became fluent in Spanish. I have always been fascinated by design, specifically how color theory works with interior spaces. Growing up I have always been involved in artistic endeavors such as theatre, art classes, and music. I have also had the opportunity to be the president of my sorority Sigma Alpha Omega at Clemson. During that time, I learned to lead my sorority through weekly meetings, work with others, and manage and deal with conflict. I also have worked on teams in which we advertised on campus, talked and engaged with new people, and helped run meetings.

During my time at Clemson, I have taken many classes such as design, mixed media, sculpture, painting and printmaking. I have also taken many architecture classes and even had the chance to study abroad in Italy. I am very passionate about creating work that is personal to the individual and tells a story. Designing and creating with the client in mind is something that is important in this career. Architectural design is also just as important as the interior of the space. It sets the tone for a space and an artistic expression for what you can expect. Interior design with an emphasis in architecture is something I want to pursue. I have always enjoyed drawing out plans for rooms and houses and designing the layout for them, then creating a color scheme and mood board from it. My final senior architecture project helped combine exterior architecture and interior design by creating a house based on the location and historical narrative of a site and creating a floor plan and scale model for it. We also had to consider other obstacles such as bridges and pathways in relation to the location of our building. Working in residential design would be a great start and I would be able to foster the architectural design of an already existing house and bring it to the interior.
